A ceremony meant to lament a loss, usually performed during a funeral and at the beginning of the [[Week of Mourning]]. Exact practices differ from family to family and from location to location. In [[Heorot]] it typically includes hiding one's face, fasting, wearing dark clothes, and group singing of mourning hymns. During a funeral, the hymns are typically sung as the body is burned on a pyre. During the ceremony performed for the Week of Mourning an effigy of [[Karvargr]] is burned as a rememberance of his sacrifice and the many lives lost after the battle with the dragon that killed him.
