Karim became bored of watching the people on this world, so he decided to start an apocalypse in order to have one last fireworks show before scrapping the world and starting it anew. However, a group of heroes (Old Heroes) managed to stop the apocalypse.
Finally entertained, he started throwing more apocalypses after them. From the shadows, he gave the heroes great boons and tasked them with stopping each of the apocalypses.
Eventually, the heroes found out and made a plan to stop Karim. They managed to seal up the god and save the world one last time.
However, when the heroes turned against Karim, he responded by starting one final apocalypse. Monsters started growing in number and power, backing humanity into a corner. The heroes, unable to stop this apocalypse, created fortified cities as the final bastions of life.
Several centuries later our story takes place.
